Summer Reading Program 2009

Kindergarten – 3rd Grade Category

Rules

 

  1. An adult must accompany the child / children
  2. Books from the library are taken home and READ
  3. A reading record will be kept up by the parent/child, but it is left at the library; (these are kept on the first table in the center of the library)
  4. Document every book read by placing the TITLE on the Reading Record during each visit to the library and bring the record to the desk for staff to initial
  5. For every week the child visits the library, they get a coupon for something free or discounted
  6. For every 4 Books Read, the child gets a sticker to put on a poster located in the library
  7. For every 4 books, they get to put their name in the drawing box (this is kept on the first table in the center of the library) for prizes given on party day –
    But the Child must be present on Party Day to Win
  8. If 16 books are read within the 6 week summer reading program the child will receive a certificate
  9. Additionally, prizes are drawn during Special Programs

  5. For every 8 Books Read, the child gets a sticker to put on a poster located in the library
  6. For every 8 books, they get to put their name in the drawing box (this is kept on the first table in the center of the library) for prizes given on party day –
    But the Child must be present on Party Day to Win the Prize
  7. If 16 books are read within the 6 week summer reading program the child will receive a certificate
  8. Additionally, prizes are drawn during Special Programs

AND / OR    -   AR Readers’ Variation

  1. Document every book read by placing on the Reading Record during each visit to the library the Title and Reading Level, and circle AR Point Value.

5.      For every POINT read the child gets a sticker to put on a poster located in the library

  1. For every POINT read, they get to put their name in the drawing box
  2. If 8 POINTS are read within the 6 week summer reading program the child will receive a certificate

Infant – Pre-Kindergarten Category

Rules

 

  1. An adult must accompany the child / children
  2. A reading record will be kept up by the parent/child, and may be left at the library or taken home by the parent
  3. Document every five minutes read on the reading record by placing parent initials in the boxes.  Reading material may include…

·         Books from the library # 1 !!!!

·         Books from home

·         Cereal Boxes

·         Magazines

·         Newspapers


  1. Bring the reading record to the front desk for staff to initial weekly and/or each 30 minutes read
  2. For every week the child visits the library, they get a coupon for something free or discounted
  3. For every 30 minutes of reading, the child gets a sticker to put on a poster located in the library
  4. For every 30 minutes of reading, they get to put their name in the drawing box for prizes given on party day
    But the Child must be present on Party Day to Win the Prize
  5. If 150  minutes are read within the 6 week summer reading program the child will receive a certificate
  6. Additionally, prizes are drawn during Special Programs
